Week 12/13 Announcements Galore

Okay, maybe not announcements “galore”, but we’ve got some announcements, I’m putting them in this update, and we are pretty stoked about them. Here we go.

Turkey Day Competition

The results are in, and raptors won the day scoring the most points for all of the available achievements and awards in our Turkey Day Competition to celebrate Thanksgiving, Throwdown style. MtgProHammer finished in second place just a point behind, and DLFootball finished third. Congrats on the strong showing!

Check the results post for the top 30, and complete results table for all the detail. Thanks to everyone who played and made our first Thanksgiving Day event a big success!

Fantasy Throwdown Writers Tournament

No sooner are we out of one event, we want to keep the ball rolling with another great event. This time we’re organizing fantasy football writers across the inter webs for a Fantasy Throwdown tournament. We are finalizing participants, but it looks like we’ll have at least a dozen writers competing over two weeks, starting Week 14 of the NFL season. The competition will be tough, and cut-throat, like a Throwdown challenge should be. Here are some of the names already committed to testing their mettle:

Jeff Christiansen – FFToolbox
Jim Day – GoAheadScore
Eric Dickens – Dynasty League Football
Will Grant – Footballguys
Bob Harris – Fantasy Sports Publications
Joe Herbert – Football Diehards
Emil Kadlec – Fantasy Sports Publications
Alessandro Miglio – Pro Football Focus
Andy Miley – Dynasty Blitz
Lou Tranquilli – BFD Fantasy Football
Matt Schauf – DraftSharks

Matt and I are going to represent Fantasy Throwdown, but we may also pull some of our regulars into the fray to fill in spots as needed. Then these guys will really be in trouble.

Fantasy Throwdown Players Tournament

No sooner (hey, I started the last announcement like this) did I leak some info about the Fantasy Throwdown Writer’s Tournament on Twitter, and Throwdown player WideReceiving quickly responded, “Tourney? Can I play?”

Well, we weren’t planning for this, but why not? Benefits of an organization with no red tape. Yes, let’s run a concurrent Throwdown Players Tourney with the same setup and timing as the showcase tourney. We are looking for 16 regulars to fill the slots. Email me if you’re interested. Once we have our committed group, then I’ll schedule the match ups and send out more details.

Throwdown Thursdays

All this tourney talk is for next week, so let’s not bail on Week 13. Eagles-Seahawks to kick us off Thursday night and closing out Monday with Chargers-Jaguars. It is primetime games like these that make me want to take up a consulting job predicting future game quality and marketing myself to NFL and TV network execs. Until that happens though, it is a good thing we have this fantasy addiction to take the edge off. And don’t mind my cynicism towards the primetime bookends, because there are plenty of good games on the docket for Sunday.

Throwdown Thursdays are in effect, which means… well, we haven’t set anything in stone yet, but for now, spread the word and just play Fantasy Throwdown, whether it be Thursday, Friday, Saturday or even Sunday morning leading up to kickoff. Thursday is a great day to kick start looking forward to the upcoming games.

Plus it is time to welcome in December. Remember, even if you are near the finish of your traditional fantasy football league(s), but still need your fantasy football fix along with your playoff-ousted league mates, Fantasy Throwdown is going to run right through the NFL playoffs. Enjoy, and good luck this week!
